The alleged rape of Micoud woman in her home last week by a twenty eight year old who had reportedly been recently released from Prison has sparked the ire of the Communications Officer for Speak Out St Lucia.

Norbert Williams who has been pushing for the establishment of a sex offenders registry here, believes that there must be a more proactive approach in protecting the public from individuals who are seen as predators.

Police News
A twenty-eight year old man has been arrested by the police in connection with the alleged rape of a woman.
The alleged incident occurred at the woman’s home in Mon Repos, Micoud.

The alleged perpetrator is known to the victim who is in her thirties, it is reported. The suspect is accused of forcing himself into the woman’s home on Wednesday last week, where he proceeded to have sexual intercourse with the mother of several children without her consent.

Zika Virus Now Classified as a Sexually Transmitted Disease
Medical Officials in St Lucia have accepted the diagnosis of international experts who have classed the Zika virus as a sexually transmitted disease.

This comes following confirmation from the Centres for disease control which has determined that the Zika virus can be found in bodily fluids including semen and breast milk.

British Government Deports 42 Jamaicans Amid Claims of Unjust Expulsions

Despite a protest staged outside the Jamaican High Commission in London Tuesday, the British Government deported 42 Jamaicans amid claims that they were tricked and that the expulsions were unjust.

The deportees, some carrying only one bag of personal possessions, arrived in Kingston on a chartered flight yesterday morning and were taken to police custody, where they were processed before being released to anxious relatives.

ECCO Director Resigns
A call for more accountability has been made on ECCO following the resignation of the organization’s director.

Ian Sanchez disclosed via missive that he had stepped down from the position citing two main reasons. Among them was the unsanctioned salary increase for the General manager as well as a conflict of interest with the Chairman of the board of ECCO who also works as the organization’s agent in Dominica.

Young Group Hosts Faux-A-Chaud Carnival Princess Pageant
A group of young people are aiming to change the stigma attached to their community by developing positive activities to uplift and empower the youth in the neighborhood.

16-year-old Giovanni Charles along with other young people, hosted the Faux-a-Chaud Carnival Princess Pageant in order to raise funds for a new and upcoming youth group called Dream performing arts. The organizers have used the pageant to boost the morale of the children in the community. They plan to continue this initiative and encourage youth participation in several upcoming activities.

Fire Engulfs Pavee Home
A fire which engulfed a Pavee home has shocked residents in the area who believe that may have been as a result of  arson.

The fire service received a distress call at about 2:50 pm on Thursday afternoon but upon arrival on the scene. the wooden home which was owned by a man known in the area as “black man” was burned to the ground. Residents say that the man lived with one other family member.
