Lambirds Academy Scandal Continues
The CEO of Lambirds Academy who has been embroiled in a legal battle since 2015 has expressed confidence about the outcome of a March 2nd court hearing, where he will face Human Trafficking charges.

Dr Iftekar Sham says he is pleased with a court decision to drop two out of the three charges brought against him including money laundering, obtaining money by deception and Human trafficking, after over forty adjournments.

Local Karatekas Prepares for Next Olympic Games in Japan
Work has begun to prepare local karatekas for the next Olympic Games in Japan. The sport is one of five added to the list of new entries approved by the International Olympic Committee. The others include baseball, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing. A new Executive Committee was installed over the weekend to prepare the local martial artists for the 2020 event.

Employees of Lucelec who are members of the St Lucia Civil Service Association have apparently staged a sick out today.

The action is reportedly being taken over what workers believe is the slow pace at which negotiations between the management of the power company and their bargaining unit are moving.

An accident on the main road from Dennery to Castries brought traffic to a stop this morning due to an obstruction in the road.

Traffic police have confirmed that the driver of a Suzuki escudo attempted to overtake traffic when he lost control.  As a result the vehicle collided with a utility pole that fell onto the road, exposing live wires.

NEMO Reports Damage Following 5.8 Magnitude Earthquake
There have been no reports of damage or injury following a 5.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked St Lucia on Friday.

The confirmation comes from the Director of NEMO Velda Joseph, who informed that the department was contacted by the seismic research unit of the University of the West Indies last week.

John Pompey claims that he refused an offer for a lift when he was approached by individuals in a black car around 3am. But he says they pursued him throwing stones at him.

VAT Officials Confirm Reports of Non Compliance
Officials at the Vat Office have confirmed reports that some businesses have not made adjustments to the vat rate at their point of sale locations.

A new vat rate took effect here on February 1st resulting in a 2,5 percent reduction from 15 to 12.5 percent.

VAT to be Officially Reduced Today
From midnight Tuesday a reduction in VAT officially took effect bringing the levy from 15% to 12.5%. The move has been  among the campaign promises of the current Allen Chastanet administration.

Two weeks ago the Inland Revenue Department reminded the general public of the recent legislative amendment to the Value Added Tax (VAT) Act as per Statutory Instrument (SI) No.101 of 2016, which reduced the standard VAT rate from 15% to 12.5%, effective February 01, 2017.

Tragedy has struck in Active Hill leaving the parents of two children dead following a violent and bloody attack.

Reports are that a 27 year old man and his common law wife were stabbed multiple times in the wee hours of Wednesday morning while they slept in their home.
