According to its publisher and talk show host Rick Wayne the paper opened here with the aim of highlighting many of the darker human interest stories that no one else dared to touch.

St. Lucia Mourns the Passing of its Own, Nobel Prize Winner Sir Derek Walcott

Legendary writer, poet and painter Sir Derek Walcott is dead.

The Nobel Prize winner for Literature died at his Cap Estate residence early this morning following what appears to have been multiple organ failure. Sir Derek was undergoing dialysis treatment.

A 22 year old St Lucian man has been charged as police continue an investigation into an ATM scam in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Jammy Harry, is accused of stealing a total of EC$15,500 from Michelle Williams, Curvis Lewis and Willis Pope in separate incidents which occurred between March 10th and 12th, 2017.

The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards will recognize the achievement of six spas which have attained the Saint Lucia Quality Logo under the Beauty & Wellness Certification Programme.

The Beauty and Wellness Certification Programme is a three tier system, for which beauty and wellness establishments can become certified as having met the strictest requirements for hygiene and safety practices in their establishments.

A senior citizen is reported to have been injured in a fire at Canaries Saturday that affected three buildings.



According to information, the Soufriere Fire station received a call at approximately 10:25 a.m, about a structural fire.

Patient Attacked at  Accident & Emergency Department of the Victoria Hospital
Saturday's cutlass attack on a patient at the Accident & Emergency Department of the Victoria Hospital not only called into question to current security arrangements at the island main hospital but has also left staff traumatized and fearful for their safety. An emergency management meeting was convened on Monday to map out new security arrangements and guidelines to improve staff and patient safety from breaches of this nature.

St Jude Hospital Receives Grant from the Government of Japan
St Jude Hospital, the main healthcare provider serving the southern half of St Lucia, has received a grant totaling USD$81,162 from the Government of Japan. The grant was presented by the Japanese Ambassador to St Jude Hospital Chairman – Dr Ulric Mondesir during an official signing ceremony on February 23, 2017 at the Office of the Prime Minister in Castries.

Following up on last year’s successful event, “She.lc” 2017 is once again poised to excite, honour and empower women under the theme Archetypes and stereotypes, on the occasion of International Women´s Day.

The Embassies of Spain, Mexico and the Alliance Française once again have proposed a cultural and social celebration in Saint Lucia with a triple objective.  It includes a cultural activity, emphasizing the role of women in the Arts. The forum will also commemorate the IWD, by stressing the importance of the empowerment of women as a basic pillar of social development. The idea is to promote the creativity of local artists giving them a space and a subject to create their own artistic expressions.

Police News
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a forty nine (49) year old resident of Morne Panache, Dennery, namely, Clayton Justin.

Officers attached to the Richfond Police Station received a report reference to a chopping at Morne Panache, Grande Riviere, Dennery, about 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017. Clayton Justin allegedly received a single slash wound to the neck during a physical altercation. He was later pronounced dead on the scene by a medical practitioner.

Audio-Visual and Film workshops launch off the Speciality Caribbean EXPO capacity building programe at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground today.

The initiative comes out of collaboration between the Saint Lucia Trade Export Promotion Agency (TEPA), the Caribbean Youth Film Festival and the Audio Visual and Film Association.
