St. Lucia Ministry of Health and Wellness Reports an Increase in Leptospirosis Cases

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has noted a reported increase in the cases of Leptospirosis.

Although increases in the number cases of Leptospirosis is not unusual after periods of heavy rains or flooding it remains an issue of concern to health authorities.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of twenty two (22) year old namely, Clint Wells of Cedar Heights, Vieux Fort.

On Tuesday, October 31, 2017 about 8:20 a.m. officers attached to the Vieux Fort Police Station responded to a report of a suspected drowning at Moule-a-Chique Beach in Vieux Fort.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Cyril James, consequent to a vehicular accident which occurred on Monday, October 30, 2017, about 4:30 p.m. at Victoria, Choiseul, near the Ravineau Gap.

Cyril James, a fifty two (52) year old resident of Morne Jacques, Choiseul, was one of four persons on a pick-up van, which overturned after encountering mechanical difficulties.

Police News

On Wednesday, October 18, 2017, officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, Vieux Fort, received a report of a stabbing at West Hall Group, Vieux Fort, between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Keith Smith, a twenty nine (29) year old resident of Balca, Choiseul, originally of Bruceville, Vieux Fort, sustained a stab wound during the said incident. He was pronounced dead on the scene by a medical practitioner.

Dr. Iftekhar Shams, the man at the centre of the Lambirds Academy human trafficking scandal, is due to make a court appearance today Thursday October 19.

However the Lambirds Academy CEO says he’s sceptical that the case will be heard adding that he’s fed up Justice System in St Lucia.

Ms Brown is a Saint Lucian who started her career in the Saint Lucian Tourism Business and propelled to become a senior executive at Viacom in New York.
