 Another Fire Causes Extensive Damage to Soufriere Hospital Structure

The Soufriere Hospital was again the scene of another fire within one month, this time causing extensive structural damage and the loss of vital pieces of equipment and supplies.

The incident occurred on December 7th, nearly four weeks after a section of the facility was damaged on 9th November 2017.

Police News

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Cecil Moise, consequent to a vehicular accident which occurred on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, about 9:55 p.m. along the Bexon Highway, Cul de Sac.

Cecil Moise, a sixty eight (68) year old resident of Marc, Bexon, was commuting along the said highway, on foot, when a collision, involving the mentioned pedestrian and a motorcar, occurred. Cecile Moise was conveyed to the Victoria Hospital via ambulance, where he succumbed, about 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, 29 November, 2017, due to injuries sustained.

Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged in St. Lucia

The Public is notified that in keeping with changes in international oil prices and Government’s application of the modified market pass-through petroleum pricing mechanism, the retail price of gasoline (unleaded) remains unchanged.

The retail price for LPG 20, 22, and 100 lb cylinders, diesel, and Kerosene have been changed. The price changes take effect from Monday, November 27, 2017:

Officials to Discuss Issues Related to the Paint Industry in Saint Lucia

The St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture has met with Department of Commerce Officials, to discuss issues related to the Paint Industry in Saint Lucia regarding what is described as a disturbing practice in the paint industry by a new entrant.

According to a statement from the Chamber, the license granted to USA owned and operated business, Sherwin Williams to operate here has expired and has not been renewed for the past year, because the firm has been operating outside of the terms of the license.

Family Recounts Details Surrounding Death of Laborie Resident as Investigation into the Homicide of Sadia Byron Continues

The killing of Sadia Byron and the ongoing investigation into what has been listed as the island’s 51st homicide has reopened old wounds for a Laborie family.

This, as a woman identified as Brenda recounted the details surrounding the murder of her brother Marcus Nelson during Thursday’s Newsspin programme. Nelson had sustained a severed wrist and was stabbed multiple times in the head and chest on January 6th near his Mon Repos home. The death was registered as the 2nd for 2016.

Individual Remains in Police Custody as Investigations Continue into Death of Laborie Resident

One individual remains in police custody in relation to investigations currently underway into the death of Sadia Byron, but no charges have been laid.

The disclosure came from the Assistant Police Commissioner for Crime Management George Nicholas who informed that the other individual who had been detained has not been ruled out as a possible suspect.

Six Hundred St. Lucians to Receive Hearing Aid from Starky Foundation

Over six hundred people in need of hearing aids have benefited from a screening exercise conducted by the Starky Foundation.

Screening commenced on Monday 13th November and will run through the first week of January 2018. Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean, Tamiann Young explained that the foundation focuses on providing hearing aids for persons who are not in a position to afford them.

St. Lucia National Mental Wellness Centre Conducts One Day Training on Two Way Radio Communication

The need for an effective and reliable communications system is imperative in light of what experts have described as the most devastating hurricane season on record, rendering communities and islands cut-off from the rest of the world.

It is with this thrust that staff of the St. Lucia National Mental Wellness Centre via the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) conducted a one day training session in two way radio communication. Serona Leonce is the Chairperson of the Wellness Centre disaster committee.
