Women in Action on Women in Politics

The women’s arm of the United Workers Party has pledged to pay closer attention to the level of participation from women in local politics.

This comes following the election of what the WIA says is an unprecedented number of women on the party’s executive.

STEP Employs 2,325 Persons

Another cycle of the Short Term Employment Programme (STEP) commenced on Monday, this week, in all seventeen constituencies here.

For one week, two thousand, three hundred and twenty five (2,325) persons will engage in beautification and de-bushing works in communities around the island.

Reduction in Fuel Prices

Another adjustment has been made to the price of fuel and fuel products here that will result in a reduction in cost to consumers.

Voice Publishing and National Workers Union Strike Deal

The Management of the Voice Publishing Company Ltd and Representatives of the National Workers Union have satisfactorily completed negotiations.

The Company and the NWU agreed to temporarily shelve a Reclassification, Slotting and Adjustments exercise for a period of one year.

NIC prepares to Implement Reclassification Exercise

The National Insurance Corporation (NIC) is seeking to clarify the issues surrounding its position on the current industrial unrest within the organization

LIAT to acquire new aircrafts

The Antigua-based regional airline, LIAT, Friday said the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) is providing US$65 million in loans to the four shareholder governments of the company.

It said the loan, approved on Thursday, to Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Dominica will assist with the purchase of aircrafts in the context of a fleet modernisation project.

Owners, management and resort teams at Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet were overjoyed when the news broke that Travel + Leisure readers voted Jade Mountain the Top Resort and Anse Chastanet the No 2 Resort in the Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Bahamas, in the 2013 World’s Best Awards survey.

King and Queen of the Bands on Carnival Calendar for 2013

The King and Queen of the bands competition returns to the calendar of activities for carnival this year, and organizers are describing it as better than ever.
