After weeks of internal campaigning among United Workers party delegates, the political organization has elected a new leader.

Excitement surrounding the leadership bid between Mr Stephenson King and Allen Chastanet was at its peak in the run up to the convention which was held in Marigot on Sunday.

Mr Allen Chastanet was declared political leader of the United Workers party following the fiercely contested election, and the first order of the day, according to him, is to unite the members of the UWP who appeared to have been divided during the campaign period.

The newly elected UWP leader says the healing process must take place to allow the party to make a smooth transition into governing the country if the electorate calls upon it to do so.
