The “Jazz versus Carnival debate is revived here as the winners of the various competitions in the island’s largest cultural show piece continue their wait for their prizes.

Among the individuals contributing to the discussion is the General Manager of the Eastern Caribbean Collective Organization for Music Rights Steve Etienne, who notes that the tardiness with which these payments are handled is not only unacceptable but disrespectful.

He has made reference to the disparity in the level of government investment into both national events, noting that the challenge with late disbursements will heavily affect the budding creative industries. He made reference to the level of preparation being placed into carnival in other territories around the region noting that the plans are put in motion well in advance.

He also pointed to news from the Director of Tourism Louis Lewis, that plans for the staging of the St Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival 2014 have already begun, even as carnival struggles to meet commitments that should have been settled by now.
