Just months away from the island’s main cultural showpiece, the St. Lucia Carnival Bands Association wishes to assure members of the general public all is being done to ensure a great festival this year.

Last week, at a special extraordinary meeting of the association, under section 16(e) of the Constitution, it was unanimously agreed that the current executive should be extended to October 2015. This was due to the number of critical initiatives for carnival 2015 currently in progress.

The reelected executive includes Miss Sonia Sifflet – President, Miss Erylle Lascaris – Treasurer, Miss Carlyn Benjamin – Secretary, Mr. Adrian Augier – Trustee and Mr. Jason Hullingseed – Public Relations Officer.

Speaking on the Executive’s re-instatement, SLCBA President Sonia Sifflet says “… the development will allow the SLCBA to champion the cause of its members and continue lobbying as it plans boldly into Carnival 2015.

Miss Sifflet notes that while the Association is currently working towards a better structure and overall improvement of the festival along with the authorities, everyone should play their role at the national task of packaging and marketing the Carnival product, hence resulting in the successful management of Saint Lucia Carnival”.

The SLCBA President while highlighting the possible absence this year of three bands, which have confirmed their non–participation in this year’s Carnival, says the Association will continue working assiduously to sustain and grow the island’s carnival industry.

According to Mrs. Sifflet, “while remaining members of the SLCBA pledge to the progress of the Carnival industry in St. Lucia, Government should also fashion an atmosphere for Mas Creators to preserve our indigenous showcase”.
