Investigations into what police suspect to be a human trafficking ring in St Lucia has resulted in the arrest of four people.

The disclosure was made by Deputy Police Commissioner Frances Henry during a news conference earlier today.

It comes following news that several students of Indian decent had filed a formal complaint with the Royal St Lucia Police force last week.

The claim suggested that they had come to the island on the premise that they would have qualified for higher learning at a St Lucia based university.

Ms Frances Henry noted that with heightened surveillance capacity initiated over the weekend, police recorded significant headway with their investigations into what now appears to be a scam.

She noted that of the six individuals who were being treated as persons of interest, four have now been formally charged with the offense of Human Trafficking.

DCP Henry assured that the arrest of the four people should not be seen as the end to the investigation
