Top level officials in the Ministry of Health have responded to concerns expressed by the Leader of the Political opposition on the poor state of the health sector here.

In a communiqué released on Tuesday, the UWP highlighted the many challenges that continue to confront the St Jude Hospital and the shortages in medical and other supplies at the southern healthcare institution.

The party also called on the Health Minister to address the concerns of St. Lucians who are unable to access the services of the hospital.

Speaking on the situation Chief Executive Officer Dr Cherry Poyotte confirmed that the issues confronting the hospital are longstanding and that strong efforts continue with the Ministry of Health and Finance in an effort to get them addressed.

Dr Poyotte notes that measures are being taken to effectively manage and address some of the challenges confronting the hospital.
