The curtains may have come down on the Main Stage Jazz event…but organizers of the Grande Riviere Jazz may have ended last weekend, but the 2015 Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival is far from over.

Another event has been inserted onto the Jazz Calendar of Activities, and organizers are confident that Roadside Jazz at Grande Riviere-Gros Islet will be a major hit.

Organized by the Grande Riviere Roadside Jazz Committee under the patronage of the MP for Gros Islet, Hon. Emma Hippolyte, Roadside Jazz will feature performances by Derek Yard Promotions, Derede Williams, Clarence Joseph, National String Orchestra & Pearl Tench, the Corinth Secondary School Band, the Addition Band, the Salsa Group “Bailamos”, Masquerade & Stilt Walkers, Pantime and LapoKabwit.

Roadside Jazz will be held on Sunday May 17th, 2015 from 2-8pm near the Grand Riviere-Gros Islet playing field.

The event is fully endorsed by the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, and has the backing of numerous commercial sponsors, including Rubis, Lime,The Wave, Choice TV, JH Larcher Electricals and Nagico -- with additional support from the Grande Riviere Development Committee.

According to Minister Emma Hippolyte, "The town of Gros Islet, home of Main Stage Jazz has been a major beneficiary of the festival, while Monchy has successfully hosted a fringe event over the past three years.”

She notes that “Roadside Jazz is intended to spread the joys of the festival throughout the other communities of Gros Islet. This she notes will provide a riveting climax to the 24th annual St. Lucia Jazz Festival, due to the extensive and highly-rated cast of performers being brought together for this concert."

The open-air event on Sunday is free, and caps another season in which the constituency of Gros Islet has been the overwhelming leader in hosting most of the Jazz Festival events.

To minimize traffic congestion, park-and-ride arrangements will be in place for Saturday's Roadside Jazz. Buses will be available from the car park of the Infrastructure Ministry and the Dame Pearlette School at Union; from the Corinth Bus Terminal in Castries and from the Marisule-Corinth junction.

Security will be in place at the designated parking zones, and traffic management procedures will be in effect along roads near (and leading to) the event.
