The latest attack on a yachtsman at the Rodney Bay Marina who was on a visit to St Lucia has prompted renewed calls from the Marine Consultant in the Ministry of Tourism.

Mr Cuthbert Didier has reiterated calls for safety and security concerns to be address amid the growing expansion of the yachting sector.

Reports indicate that a Canadian yachtsman who was asleep on the deck of one of his boats was awakened by an intruder who has boarded the vessel. Claims are that the intruder stepped on the unsuspecting yachtmans before a scuffle between then ensued.
As a result of the attack, the tourist sustained 17 stab wounds about the body.

Mr Didier says the backlash from this incident which is reminiscent of the Pratt murder in Vieux Fort will depend on how the matter is handled by the judiciary.

Mr Didier says the latest incident highlights the need for regular patrols by the relevant authorities.

Another female occupant who was also aboard the vessel at the time of the incident was unharmed.
