The Head of the Fire Service Welfare Association has reiterated manpower and staffing concerns following the sad turning ceremony for the construction of a new fire station in Babonneau.

Mr Shane Felix says while officers were never informed of the plans for a new station, they were only informed of the event which took place on Friday last week.

He says the development will heighten the need for additional staffing, which is one of the issues that the Fire Service has been plagued with for years.

Despite his expressed reservations Mr Felix also noted that the commissioning of a fire station in Babonneau is a positive step, for one main reason.

The cost of the new fire station is estimated at 6 million dollars
