The closure of the John Compton Damn to facilitate works on the reservoir is a cause of serious concern for officials at the St Lucia Fire Service.

That's the sentiment expressed by Deputy Fire Chief Lambert Charles ahead of the planned closure that will leave most parts of the island without a supply of the precious resource.

Mr Charles notes that the situation will leave St Lucians vulnerable and render the St Lucia Fire Service incapable of responding effectively in case of a major incident.

Mr Charles is also concerned about the spate of bush fires and whether the department will be able to contain the spread, in the absence of water reserves.

Mr Charles notes that the department is now faced with the challenge of seeking alternative water sources as it prepares for an eventuality during Wednesday’s closure.

Officials remain apprehensive ahead of Wednesday’s closure of the reservoir.
