The women’s arm of the United Workers Party has pledged to pay closer attention to the level of participation from women in local politics.

This comes following the election of what the WIA says is an unprecedented number of women on the party’s executive.

According to Public Relations Officer Nancy Charles the WIA is particularly keen on the behaviour of politicians on the platform and campaign trail in the run up to general elections.

She says among the aims of the organization is to monitor the attacks on women during that time and to speak out against it.

Meanwhile, Women in Action (WIA) wishes to congratulate the newly elected Political Leader and Executive of the United Workers Party.

WIA is especially encouraged by the presence of seven (7) women on the National Executive including its President, Mrs. Edith Petra Jeffrey-Nelson, who will be working along with

Dr.  Gale T.C. Rigobert - Deputy Political Leader
Ms.  Mary Polius - 1st Vice Chairperson
Mrs. Leonne Theodore-John - Elections Officer
Mrs. Inista St. Marthe - Welfare Officer
Mrs. Gertrude George -  Trustee
Ms.  Antonia Lana Auguste - United Youth President

The organization notes in a statement released today that the members are confident that the women on the executive will provide ample representation for their counterparts in the United Workers Party and without fear or favour, take policy decisions on all issues which directly affect the women of St Lucia.
