A consultant who was hired by the St Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority to supervise an ongoing project in Castries is dead.

According to a statement released by the statutory body ahead of demolition works on the old fire service building, the consultant was hired as an additional precautionary measure as it sought to ensure the safe removal of hazardous material from the site.

Part of his responsibility included the provision of advice and guidance on best practices for the extraction and disposal of any harmful material for the duration of the demolition exercise.

Reliable sources have confirmed that SLASPA officials were informed of the consultant’s demise on Sunday and that he did not die on the job.

Officials have also informed that efforts are currently being made to contact his family overseas and that an official statement is expected to be released once all the information surrounding the death is in.
