The Head of the Mental Wellness Centre says a National Health Helpline that was officially established here this week has been receiving an average of fifteen calls per 24 hour shift.

The facility was established in light of the increasing number of suicides being reported here. The male population appears to be most affected by the scourge.

Mrs Charmaine Hippolyte Thomas notes that the calls are coming from individuals in varying age groups, who are expressing a range of concerns.

Mrs Thomas adds that follow-ups are currently in process on three cases which have raised alarm for personnel at the helpline.

Mrs Thomas has also addressed concerns about access to the service following claims that the helpline cannot be reached if the caller has no phone credit.

She stressed that the helpline is a free service and can be accessed on the number 203
