One of St Lucia’s Premiere Cultural Icons has been recognized on the occasion of his Anniversary.

The recognition and well wishes come from the President of the Belle Vue Development Committee Kendell Elva to Mr Joseph Rameau People (MBE).

Joseph Rameau Poleon (MBE) was born on the 10th of July, 1929 in the community of Belle Vue, Vieux-Fort.

His parents were Jolliffe Joseph Poleon, a famed fortune teller, and Tina Poleon. Rameau started playing the violin under the tutelage of his uncle Flood Poleon at the age of 15 years. His first public performance was at Laurenson’s Hall in Micoud.

In 1979 Mr Poleon  met with Eric Adley, cultural activist and musician, and formed the Mount Gallion Folk Group. Together they performed at CARIFESTA 1981 in Barbados; and travelled to Europe, North America and the Caribbean.
