The forced retirement of former Fire Chief Leslie Fontinelle has been described as groundbreaking by the President of the Fire Service Welfare Association.

The decision from Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy came upon a recommendation from the Public Service Commission following disciplinary action taken against Mr Fontinelle.

Speaking on the development Fire Service Welfare Association President Shane Felix says while he is not surprised at the decision to retire the senior public servant, he is concerned about the individuals who were directly affected by the actions of the former Fire Chief.

Felix believes that the evidence supporting two damning allegations against his former boss sealed his fate

The Welfare Association president has expressed concern for his members who were wronged or disadvantaged by the former fire chief and the effect that it has on their career within the fire service.

Asked whether there plans for civil action against the former fire chief, Mr Felix says that’s not the intention.
