Recent rains which have been experienced here over the past few days have increased the supply of water at the John Compton Dam.

That's the word from Senior Supervisor of water services at WASCO Timothy James, following heavy showers over the weekend.

WASCO has activated a water rationing system following a water related emergency that has been issued for the entire island.

According to the WASCO official, as a result of the increased storage the company is now able to distribute the precious resource to more of its customers.

Mr James has also provided an update on the works which were completed on the John Compton Dam and other water distributions mains earlier this month.

He says WASCO recorded an immediate impact following the renovations.

The WASCO officials however warns that despite intermittent rains, drought conditions continue to persist here.
