Officers attached to the Central Fire Station are looking forward to plans for the construction of a new headquarters, following the demolition of the old building on Jeremy Street.

The demolition project which was facilitated by the St Lucia Air and Sea Ports authority began last year. The building was vacated years before because of structural defects and other issues which impacted on the health of the officers.

Speaking on the development earlier today, Chairman of the Fire Service Welfare Association Shane Felix noted that while the building continues to have sentimental value to many officers, they are looking forward to plans for a more suitably retrofitted facility.

The demolition exercise forms part of plans to modernize the Castries waterfront.
