The St Lucia Civil Service Association is following through with its threat of strike action on the Ministry of Health, due to its failure to regularize outstanding overtime payments for drivers.

According to the acting President of the CSA Wilfred Pierre, the payments have been outstanding for almost three years. He claims that despite several attempts to resolve the situation have failed.

An ultimatum was issued to the Ministry on Friday last week, suggesting that if the outstanding payments were not made by Monday July 27th, then the drivers would be called out by the Union to stage protest action.

Mr Pierre says, there has been no word from the Ministry of Health and as such the strike is on.

Mr Pierre says it is not clear at this point how long the protest will last, adding that it’s entirely up to the reaction of the relevant authorities to the current situation.

RCI news was informed on Monday that the Ministry of Health would have issued a response to the claims by the CSA but there has been no official word from the department.
