The Ministry Of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations is adopting a proactive approach in the management of Pertusis/Whooping Cough of which one case has been recorded in the region.

As a result, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) held two workshops at separate venues where more than 150 health professionals serving all the regions were enlightened on the clinical situation relating to whooping cough.

Medical Surveillance Officer,Dr.Michelle Francois-D'Auvergne  and PAHO Advisor on Immunization for the Caribbean Sub Region Dr Karen Lewis Belle were the main facilitators at the workshops.

According to Dr Belle the Ministry of health is seeking to ensure that the health condition is contained in order to avoid new cases.

Meanwhile Dr Belle adds that all medical caregivers at public health institutions will receive training in handling and treating whooping cough.
