A total of 42 Officers attained promotions when the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force conducted its latest Promotions Ceremony on Sunday, August 3. ; 27 were promoted from constable to corporal, 11 from corporal to sergeant, and four from sergeant to inspector.
The ceremony, held at the Derek Walcott Square, followed a mass at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, and a parade through the streets of Castries.
Hundreds of police officers and parishioners attended the church service, and many remained to witness the formal process in which the symbols of rank were conferred by Acting Commissioner of the RSLPF, Errol Alexander, on the newly promoted officers.
Also in attendance were Prime Minister & Minister for Finance, Economic Affairs, Planning & Social Security, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport, Hon. Philip J. Pierre; and Minister of Legal Affairs, Home Affairs and National Security, Sen. Hon. Victor Philip La Corbiniere.
The Prime Minister encouraged officers of the RSLPF, especially those who were promoted, to collaborate with the citizens whom they serve, and to accept the necessary mantle of leadership, at a time when good guidance is greatly needed.
Dr Anthony also noted that it is important that the promotions process be seen as fair and transparent, ensuring that the best police officers are rewarded with advancement. The process, introduced in 2014, includes a written examination supervised by Sir Arthur Lewis Community College; a team exercise; an interview; and a polygraph test,
This process, the Prime Minister insisted, can only serve to foster confidence from the Police Force and the citizenry. But he also charged offices directly with the responsibility of retaining public trust, urging them to uphold the law, and to maintain its confines.
