St. Lucia’s Minister for Legal Affairs is being called out by the local Bar Association to address serious concerns which have been articulated in a letter to him.

In a second correspondence to Senator Victor La Corbinierre which has been signed by Bar Association President Mary Juliana Charles the Association reiterates its concerns about the situation which is currently plaguing the operations of the Court.

The association claims that to date, there has been no official communication from Mr. La Corbinierre’s Ministry as to the current status of the Court building and what steps, if any, are being taken to either improve its air quality or to provide alternative accommodation for the court.

The association is also seeking clarification on plans to relocate the Civil Court to La Place Carenage and of architectural drawings which are being prepared for the layout of the court as well as other developments taking place with the present court building, despite expert advice that it is unfit for human habitation.

The Association has advised that its members will not resume practice in the current Court Building unless and until it is given a clean bill of health by the relevant authorities.
