The local private sector faces harsh criticism for its failure to invest more capital into the Mercury Beach event that is scheduled to take place here in under two weeks.

The event which is being staged in St Lucia for the second consecutive year  is being supported by government agencies including the St Lucia Tourist Board and others.

Mr Cuthbert Didier who has been a liason with French officials, believes that such an event holds significant economic potential for St Lucia, but it cannot be accessed if the local corporate sector continues to shy away from what he says is a lucrative venture.

Mr Didier believes that the festival has the potential to blossom into a signature on the island’s entertainment calendar, but has expressed disappointment with what he says is a somewhat lukewarm support from the private sector.
