The Ministry of Health has come up with what officials are calling an exciting way to deal with the problem of chronic non communicable disease that continues to affect the local population.

The newest exercise is a national weight loss competition which is set to begin here soon. The participants will be identified from the nine health regions in St Lucia who will take on various challenges aimed at shedding extra pounds.

Health Minister Alvina Reynolds says the Pedi Gwes, Bon Sante Pou lavi weight loss challenge which also include a nutritional component, will begin on August 27th

Ms Reynolds has also announced the initiative has been endorsed by the Pan American health Organization and is being heavily supported by the local business community.

She believes that adding incentives to the weight loss challenge will entice and motivate the participants.

An appeal has been made for all Saint Lucians to ramp up their health status by starting their own fitness competitions at their schools, workplaces and communities
