The just concluded Mercury Beach event has been hailed a huge success by local organizers.

Marine Consultant in the Ministry of Tourism Cuthbert Didier notes that while it may be premature to gauge the extent of its success, prior to the release of official data, the French visitors spent an average of three hundred euros over the three day stay here.

He has expressed a desire to see the event grow here as officials have secured a three year commitment from French organizers.

But he says there must be ownership by the local private sector.

Meanwhile Mr Didier says the mercury beach event brought close to 9oo French visitors to St Lucian shores and business in the north of the island benefitted from the event.

The Mercury Beach event took place at the Pigeon island beach on Saturday.
