Tropical storm warnings have been expanded as far west as Puerto Rico as Tropical Storm Erika continues on a track that will take it near or over parts of the Caribbean tonight, and near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico tomorrow.

After Erika’s maximum sustained winds dipped to 40 miles per hour yesterday evening, they increased to 45 miles per hour again, by this morning.

The storm is now about 335 miles east of Antigua.

Its approach has prompted additional warnings to be issued and the full list of territories now under tropical storm warning are: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, the US and British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius.

Tropical storm watches are in effect for Guadeloupe, St. Martin, and St. Barthelemy.

At 8 a.m., the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said Tropical Storm Erika was moving toward the west near 17 miles per hour.
