The deadly shooting of two journalists in Virginia on Wednesday has raised fresh concerns for the safety of media practitioners here.

The president of the Media Association of St Lucia Clinton Reynolds described the situation as unfortunate and sad, while expressing sympathy to the media fraternity there.

He has however pointed to several lessons that can be drawn from the experience by local journalists in an effort to ensure their own safety at all times.

The MASL president also expressed concern about the heightened political season where emotions are can be highly charged. He cautions that every threat on the media must be taken seriously

Mr Reynolds has also called for a level of personal responsibility on the part of journalists for their own safety.
