Teachers and Principals were on hand this morning to welcome students back from almost eight weeks of summer vacation when all schools on the island opened for the new academic year.

That's the word from St Lucia’s Chief Education Officer Marcus Edward, who informed that all is in place to start the school curriculum.

He notes that in addition to infrastructural works which were conducted on the schools, educators had been preparing about a week ago for the start of the new school year.

He anticipates that they will be ready to help students recover from the summer slump and into the study mind frame.

Mr Edward says while remedial and other works continue on some institutions which will run simultaneously with the lesson program, plans are in place to deal with any issues that may arise.

The ongoing works on schools are expected to be completed by the end of this calendar year.
