Transport officials have denied claims of a one hundred percent increase on vehicle license permits for learners.

The suggestion was made by the Public Relations Officer for the Driving Schools Association during Wednesday’s Newsspin program.

According to Mr Kingson Jean the increase comes at  a time when vehicle license fees have also increased in some cases up to double the previous amount.

But during a news conference called this morning, Administrative Assistant to the Minister for Infrastructure Silas Wilson explained that such is not the case.

He revealed that the measure had already been approved through a statutory instrument by the cabinet of the former United Workers Party government, but had somehow not been implemented in its entirety.

Mr Wilson adds that it is not the governments intention to raise any other fees in the motor vehicle and road traffic regulations. As a result, a review of the policy is underway.

The decision to increase the drivers permit was taken in 2009
