Strong concerns have been raised ahead of the open cruise season about the safety of tourists who will be visiting the various locales here.

The alert has been raised by the President of the Vendors Association Peter Ras Ipa Isaac, in light of what is being seen as an apparent increase in incidents of violent crime here.

Mr Isaac is concerned that the security of visitors may be under threat as has expressed little confidence in the ability of law enforcement to control the situation.

He has also accused local tourism authorities of only paying lip service to the industry

Mr Isaac has called for a more multifaceted approach to protecting the tourism industry.

The cruise season opens in October.
