The President of the St Lucia Vendors Association says the presence of a chain snatcher who is on the loose in the city has highlighted the need for a stronger police presence in a section of the capital.

The individual is allegedly operating around the Jn Baptiste Street  and market area, targeting unsuspecting locals and visitors alike.

Mr Peter Ras Iap Isaac pointed to a recent incident where a tourist was attacked near the vendors arcade, and numerous efforts to call on the police failed.

Mr Isaac laments the hesitation on the part of civilians to intervene in many of the snatching instances because the perpetrators are armed.

The situation appears to be more acute around the market area
