Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony is taking on his detractors, who have questioned his failure to include the details of the unemployment situation in St Lucia during his most recent statement in the local media.

In his pronouncements on the state of the economy, Dr Anthony highlighted what appeared to be growth and positive performance in certain sectors including construction and tourism, but failed to provide updated information on unemployment statistics here.

He has been the target of criticism for stating that he did not have the figures for unemployment, which incidentally were subsequently released by the Director of Statistics one day after Dr Anthony’s public statement, by the director of statistics.

In an interview with RCI news today, Dr Anthony disclosed that Mr Edwin St Catherine spoke out of turn.

Dr Anthony adds that Allen Chastanet and other members of the opposition have no moral authority to speak on unemployment.

He says the reality is that the unemployment problem was inherited and that rate has only increased by one or two percent since the St Lucia Labour Party assumed office.

According to Dr Anthony, the unemployment figures will be reduced as projected foreign investment picks up here.
