The President of the National Taxi Union has expressed concern over what he says is the failure of government to address security issues affecting the cruise ship sector.

This comes as in light of growing fears about the sustainability of the sector following several reports of recent attacks on visitors in various parts of the island.

Mr Lucien Joseph believes that the problem should have been adequately addressed by local authorities well ahead of the cruise ship season which officially opens today.

Pointing to projections for the 2013 cruise ship season, Mr Joseph noted that members of the NTU are well poised for a success. He highlighted an 8 percent increase in arrivals this year which he says, translates to over 680 thousand visitors
