Serious concerns are being raised about the interests of disadvantaged CLICO policy holders in light of news that the insurance company is on the verge of selling what is being seen as its last large asset in St Lucia.

It comes from the political leader of the United Workers Party Allen Chastanet, who has also questioned whether the government is aware of the situation and what measures are being established to assure policy holders that they will be compensated.

It is being suggested that St Lucia Distillers which was previously owned by the Barnard family and later sold to CLICO is now on the market. According to Mr Chastanet, bids are already being submitted to the company.

Meanwhile government sources who has disclosed that the Prime Minister is aware of the development, has stopped short of indicating whether or not any moves are being taken by government to intervene
