The latest suicide incident has raised fresh concerns about its impact on the lives of the many children who are left without their fathers.

Reports surfaced here on Thursday that a 44 year old man of Dennery who was a father of three had taken his own life on Wednesday, leaving family and friends stunned.

Director of Human Services Elizabeth Lewis says the department has observed that the social problem has a far deeper effect on the children of suicide victims than some may realize.

In some cases she says it may prompt some of them to follow in their parents footsteps.

Mrs Lewis notes that while several steps have been taken by the state and NGOs to address the suicide problem which has so far been affecting the male population, an intervention may not always come in time, for several reasons.

The Director of Human Services has however urged families to be more observant and to look for signs of distress in their relatives
