After weeks of heavy internal campaigning by candidates vying for key positions on the executive of the United Workers Party, the results of the vote are in.

It came after delegates cast ballots at the 39th convention of the UWP which took place on Sunday.

Party leader Allan Chastanet has retained the leadership post convincingly after beating out Sarah Flood Beaubrun who also contested the position.

Dr Gale Rigobert has been voted in as Deputy Party leader, winning Ezechiel Joseph by 17 votes. Dr Andre Matthew who also contested the position received 55 votes.

In congratulating the members on the new executive following the announcement of the vote, Party Chairman Guy Mayers stressed that the responsibility of the party is to stand behind its leaders in preparation for the next general elections.

He also emphasized that there will be no more washing of dirty laundry in public.

The Party chairman informed that he will work with constituency branches in an effort to ensure that the UWP is ready to unseat the St Lucia Labour Party at the next election
