The debate on St Lucia’s membership on the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas continues despite efforts by the ruling St Lucia Labour party Administration to highlight what it says are the benefits for the country

The opposition United Workers Party has criticized the Kenny Anthony Administration for its decision to join ALBA as the major reason  for the withdrawal of aid to the Royal St Lucia Police Force by the United States Government.

The issue was placed in the spotlight again this week when Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony addressed the Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on Petro Caribe and ABLA. Dr Anthony noted that St Lucia stands to benefit significantly from the initiative particularly at a time when the cost of fuel is on the increase. But veteran politician Peter Josie is not buying it.

Mr Josie notes that as an observer he has heard arguments both in support and against the decision to join ALBA. His conclusion is that there is merit in the position taken by the United Workers Party.
