The Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has made yet another major contribution to assist with capital projects in Saint Lucia.

On Tuesday, November 5, 2013, Ambassador James Chang of the Republic of China (Taiwan), presented a cheque of USD 775,436.79 or approximately two million Eastern Caribbean dollars to Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, who in turn, made a presentation to the Office of the Accountant General.

These funds will go towards the Government’s capital programme, as outlined in the estimates for the 2013/2014 Financial Year. Specifically, the beneficiary projects of this grant are as follows:

The lighting of the Philip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux-Fort, the Anse La Raye Playing Field, the La Ressource Playing field in Dennery and the Marchand Grounds in Castries; The construction of Community Access Centres in the town of Vieux-Fort and the village of Micoud; and the development of a Block Making Facility at the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony gave a brief overview of the projects to be funded and expressed his deepest gratitude to the Government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their continued assistance in such difficult times.
