The Chairman of the OECS and Prime Minister of Grenada Dr Keith Mitchell has called for a collective approach from member states of the sub-regional grouping in the fight against the newest health threat.

It comes in the wake of strong warnings from medical experts on the Zika virus which is spread by the aides Egypti mosquito species.

Dr Mitchell says a collective approach will ensure that the region has as effective a blanket as possible in the event that a case will present itself in the region.

Dr Mitchell also expressed concern about the effect of globalization that has bridged the gap between people making the spread of the virus much easier.

As a result he says OECS leaders have agreed on a harmonized approach to tackling the virus

Proactive measures are already being taken and according to Dr Mitchell it is expected to intensify during the coming weeks.

The collective OECS response to the virus is taking place under the theme “Eliminate breeding today –Keep ZIKA Away.”
