The search for a new police commissioner could intensify in the coming months.

This is as a result of an announcement by Errol Alexander who will be proceeding on retirement in April.

He was appointed as acting commissioner March last year after Vernon Francois was sent on leave.

Mr.Alexander explained why he made this decision at  the Police training academy on Tuesday morning.

He says although he was initially excited about applying for the post, but he has since reconsidered because the application process was abandoned.

Mr.Alexander says he will catch up on activities that he missed while he worked for the police force.

The acting commissioner says he wishes the new commissioner the best of luck.
