Fire and emergency officials have registered a record number of distress calls over the independence weekend amount to 136 in total.

According to divisional officer at the St Lucia Fire Service, Bernard Prospere they included 120 emergency ambulance calls, five fire and eleven motor vehicular accidents. The calls also including assaults, choppings and stabbings.

Prospere notes that among the more serious incidents was a motorcycle which ran off the road and down a cliff on the Castries to Soufriere road.

No fatalities were reported over the weekend
