Local lawmen are under public scrutiny again this time over a shoot out  between Vieux Fort police and the RSS during a drug interdiction operation that took place on Thursday last week in Vieux Fort

According to a police statement the multi-jurisdictional inter-agency operation in the south of the island has resulted in the arrest of two (2) Saint Lucians and one (1) Vincentian aboard a local go-fast vessel which was about to land controlled drugs into Saint Lucia.

But what officials failed to disclose was that a miscommunication among the agencies involved in the operation resulted in a heavy exchange of fire between RSS officers aboard a helicopter and Vieux Fort police who were on land. Suggestions are that Vieux Fort police initiated the attack.

Claims are that the information from the marine unit to Vieux Fort police who were expected to cordon off a particular location was not clear. It is being suggested that upon arrival they mistakenly opened fire on the RSS helicopter that had been hovering over the area.
While one of the suspects was shot in the process, police have denied reports that a lawman was shot or injured during the operation.

It is also being reported that United States Assets were not involved in this operation as has been suggested.
