A well known taxi driver who operates from the stand on Jeremy Street says he is grateful to be alive after a horrific robbery and assault experience that have resulted in a tragic end.

Mr Eddison Maitland says he was approached by a young man late last night who hired him for a trip to Morne Du Don Balata. He says the man told him that he did not have enough to afford the fare but Maitland agreed to take accepting the trip.

He says he struck up a conversation with the passenger but shortly after the young man pulled out a gun and ordered him to drive

The taxi driver said the man began to hit him with the gun about his head and robbed him of his day’s earnings and his wallet.

Maitland says the ordeal was terrifying but he is grateful to be alive.

Mr Maitland says he had to receive medical treatment and stitches after the episode. But he says he is able to identify his attacker.

Maitland says he has filed a report with officers at the Criminal Investigations Department.
