As part of activities to observe World Water Day and in keeping with the theme Water, and Jobs”, Better Water Better Jobs,    the Ministry of Sustainable Development Energy Science and Technology and the WRMA with the support of several agencies, is implementing a US$20M project to overhaul the water infrastructure in Vieux Fort and surrounding communities.

The project is aimed at boosting socio-economic activity in the south of the island.

The project is geared towards the overall improvement of water supply reliability and is expected to support the ongoing social and economic development of the town of Vieux Fort.

Other projects including the Dennery Water Supply Redevelopment Project, the John Compton Dam Rehabilitation Project, the Development of a National Wastewater Management Strategic Plan and the Castries Wastewater Project will help support the national agenda to secure better water quality and supply for the creation of better jobs and more productive nation.

Approximately half of the world’s workers comprising, 1.5 billion people, work in a water related field. Moreover, nearly all jobs rely on water in some way.

In observance of World Water Day today March 22, Saint Lucians are being urged to show greater appreciation for the importance of water by conserving the resource.
