Operations at the island’s forensic lab are expected to resume in the next two weeks focusing specifically on drug testing.

The disclosure was made by National Security Minister Philip La Corbiniere following several calls on the government since the closure of the facility due to security breaches last year.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday La Corbiniere observed that the non functioning of the lab has slowed progress on police investigations, but efforts are being made to have the facility operational.

La Corbinierre says while the lab will be reopened, its operations will be strictly regulated. He also stressed that DNA testing will also be conducted at the facility once the necessary checks and balances are in place.

The Tapion based forencis lab has been closed for close to a year
