A local attorney has reacted to the decision handed down by the OECS Appeal Court on a matter filed by Guy Joseph in the Constituency Boundaries.

Joseph’s lawyers argued that Anthony Astaphan who has a close relationship with members of the St Lucia Labour Party was unfit to represent the government in the case.

Martinus Francois believes that the judgment which was handed down on Wednesday was not surprising. He adds that the appeal may have been used as a ruse to stymie the process of realigning the constituency boundaries.

Francois says what appeared to have been a ploy to delay the process was successful. He believes that time is no longer on the government’s side if it plans to realign the boundaries before the next general election.

The Court of Appeal made the dismissal and has ordered Joseph to pay the Commission legal costs in the Court of Appeal and in the High Court.
